AltaSea + Battleship IOWA

Ocean technology from AltaSea and shipboard engineering from Battleship IOWA in one day at one site. Choose the host: your class stays there all day and the other organization brings a small team and materials to it.

Sample package for the demo

Demo only: prices, grades, program details, schedules and dates are sample data. Selecting a sample date previews the demo only. Sending a request, where a package offers one, saves it for the host organisation to review; it does not hold a date, and no venue has agreed to anything until its lead contacts you.

Earlier roadwork notices · check current status

San Pedro is a construction site for the whole of the 2026-27 school year, and roadwork guidance that has gone stale is worse than none — the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s own boarding page still carries a ramp advisory that expired around December 2025. So every advisory below carries the end date its own source states, and where a source publishes none this page says Not Published instead of picking one. All three were read on 20 August 2026; check the source before you plan a route around one.

SR 47 northbound ramps at Harbor Boulevard are closedThe northbound SR 47 on-ramp and off-ramp at Harbor Blvd are shut while the interchange is rebuilt. The Vincent Thomas Bridge closes completelyCaltrans is replacing the bridge deck and closing State Route 47 for sixteen months from about 1 November 2026. That severs the direct road link between San Pedro and Long Beach for the whole pilot year, which is why this catalog offers only the brigantines berthed in San Pedro. Not PublishedNot Published
Harbor Boulevard is rebuilt from S.P. Slip to 22nd StreetThis is the corridor linking Battleship IOWA, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and the LAMI dock. The work spans the entire pilot school year.January 2028Not Published
  • SR 47 northbound ramps at Harbor Boulevard are closed — The Port of Los Angeles interchange project page, which states “The northbound SR 47 on-ramp and northbound SR 47 off-ramp at Harbor Blvd. will be closed through Oct. 31, 2026” and publishes Detour A word for word. The Port does not state that Detour A is an instruction for buses. The project’s own estimated completion is December 2026, so the advisory set will change before then. Its traffic line is (310) 732-7778. Read 20 August 2026.
  • The Vincent Thomas Bridge closes completely — Caltrans District 7 states the full closure is “scheduled for November 1, 2026” and the Port of Los Angeles states “late 2026”, for sixteen months; both say the schedule may change. No detour has been published for the full closure — the routing Caltrans has published applies to the earlier night-time lane closures, not to this — so the end date and the detour are both Not Published. Read 20 August 2026.
  • Harbor Boulevard is rebuilt from S.P. Slip to 22nd Street — The Port of Los Angeles Harbor Boulevard reconstruction schedule, November 2026 to January 2028. No detour is published for it. Read 20 August 2026.

How booking works

One request, one host, one place all day. The host organization coordinates everything with you; the other organization comes to the host site.

  1. Choose a host site and a date

Each organization hosts on its own lead day. Pick the host, pick one of its lead days outside the booking cutoff, and send the request form. The request is saved with a Booking Reference. No date is held yet.

  2. The host lead contacts you

The host organization is notified of your request and its lead reaches out about fees, whether the date can go ahead, permission slips and arrival details. Any fees are the host organization’s to arrange.

  3. The host tells the other organization

The host lead lets the partner organization know about the visit so it can plan a small team and educational materials for the day.

  4. One place, two organizations, all day

On the day, your class stays at the host site. The visiting organization runs its program there, so there is one bus stop and no travel between venues.
