Cabrillo + LAMI

Connect marine science at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium with sailing and navigation at Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI). This sample day explores coastal habitats and learning aboard a tall ship.

Sample package for the demo

Demo only: prices, grades, program details, schedules and dates are sample data. Selecting a sample date previews the demo only. Sending a request, where a package offers one, saves it for the host organisation to review; it does not hold a date, and no venue has agreed to anything until its lead contacts you.

Parking
The Cabrillo Beach fee lot is on site at 3720 Stephen M White Dr. The published tariff reads “Boats & Oversized vehicles - $3/hr with a $15 daily max” and “Credit/Debit Card payments only”. That is the beach lot’s oversized-vehicle category, aimed at boat trailers and recreational vehicles, and nobody has stated that it covers a school bus.

Still Not Published — ask before the day

  • Where a bus sets the group down, and whether it may unload at the welcome booth
  • What time the lot opens — the school programme starts at 10:00 and the aquarium does not open to the public until noon
  • Whether the oversized-vehicle rate covers a school bus

Call ahead: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s education programmes desk. The aquarium asks groups of more than 15 people to call it. (310) 548-7562 · programs@cmaqua.org

The tariff is published twice on the aquarium’s own site, on its admission page and its accessibility page; the drop-off point and the lot’s opening hour appear on neither, and its directions-and-parking and group-visits pages both return 404. The phone number is the one the aquarium publishes for group visits; the address is the one the network’s own call list uses. Read 20 August 2026.

Los Angeles Maritime Institute

Boarding: W 6th St and Harbor Blvd., San Pedro, CA 90731

Parking and access details
Drop-off
LAMI boards from W 6th St and Harbor Blvd, off the West Harbor Promenade just south of the LA Maritime Museum — a different place from its Berth 73 headquarters. Its own boarding page names the Museum Loop for drop-offs, with public restrooms on the north side of that loop. It is the only one of the four venues that names a drop-off point at all.
Parking
Street parking around the Museum Loop is limited. The lot beside the Maritime Museum is small and paid, and the gravel lot closest to the dock is paid by the QR code posted there. No bus rate and no bus-sized space is stated for any of them.

Still Not Published — ask before the day

  • Whether a 40-foot bus can complete the Museum Loop — LAMI states no turning radius and no vehicle length anywhere
  • Where a bus waits once the group is aboard
  • Any bus rate at either paid lot

Call ahead: The Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s general enquiries desk. 310-833-6055 · info@lamitopsail.org

LAMI’s own boarding and parking page, and its downloadable dock map, which labels the loop “DROP OFF LOOP, RESTROOMS & LIMITED STREET PARKING”. LAMI’s own advice on that page is to leave extra time to park and reach the dock. It states no vehicle length, which is why the 40-foot question stays open. The contact is the one the network’s own call list uses. Read 20 August 2026.

Before you brief the driver

Check the venue’s arrival instructions and contact its team about arrangements for your bus. General visitor parking information does not establish bus access. Specific arrangements may still be Not Published.

Before departure, agree on the drop-off point, waiting location, gate access and arrival time with the venue. Ask about anything still Not Published and share the answers with your driver.

Travel updates

Check Caltrans QuickMap shortly before departure. See Getting Here for more route-planning information.

Earlier roadwork notices · check current status

San Pedro is a construction site for the whole of the 2026-27 school year, and roadwork guidance that has gone stale is worse than none — the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s own boarding page still carries a ramp advisory that expired around December 2025. So every advisory below carries the end date its own source states, and where a source publishes none this page says Not Published instead of picking one. All three were read on 20 August 2026; check the source before you plan a route around one.

  • SR 47 northbound ramps at Harbor Boulevard are closed — The Port of Los Angeles interchange project page, which states “The northbound SR 47 on-ramp and northbound SR 47 off-ramp at Harbor Blvd. will be closed through Oct. 31, 2026” and publishes Detour A word for word. The Port does not state that Detour A is an instruction for buses. The project’s own estimated completion is December 2026, so the advisory set will change before then. Its traffic line is (310) 732-7778. Read 20 August 2026.
  • The Vincent Thomas Bridge closes completely — Caltrans District 7 states the full closure is “scheduled for November 1, 2026” and the Port of Los Angeles states “late 2026”, for sixteen months; both say the schedule may change. No detour has been published for the full closure — the routing Caltrans has published applies to the earlier night-time lane closures, not to this — so the end date and the detour are both Not Published. Read 20 August 2026.
  • Harbor Boulevard is rebuilt from S.P. Slip to 22nd Street — The Port of Los Angeles Harbor Boulevard reconstruction schedule, November 2026 to January 2028. No detour is published for it. Read 20 August 2026.

How a held date works

Holding a date here is not a venue agreeing to it. Each venue runs its own intake and contacts you directly. Below is what each one does next, as far as each venue has said so — and where a venue has not described a step, this page says Not Published rather than guessing at one.
